At the initiative of Goa Tourism, road shows showcasing Goa and its heritage and culture, were organised in Spain, Austria and Portugal. The events brought forth the idea of Goa and Goan culture in a way that would interest the traveller, catering to various fields of their curiosity and interest.
The warmth of Goa and Goan hospitality was brought out through the informative presentation ‘Goa – the beautiful destination’. The programmes conveyed in detail the nuances of regenerative tourism and the concept of Ekadasha Teertha Yatra were well enunciated throughout the events.
The upcoming exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier was also highlighted and people were invited to visit Goa on the occasion. St Francis Xavier, a Spanish saint who walked the shores of Goa, is held in great reverence by the people of Spain and Portugal.
The events were also focussed on promoting Goa as the favourite destination to experience a holiday in a home away from home. The occasions also served as an opportunity to recognise people from other countries who value and promote Goan ethos and culture.
Dr Susana Sardo, a Portuguese researcher who has been closely associated with endorsing Goan culture for almost four decades; was felicitated by Director of Tourism, Government of Goa Suneel Anchipaka, IAS in the presence of Asha Antony, IFS, First Secretary (Political, Commerce, Consular and Culture) and Head of Chancery of the Indian Embassy in Portugal.
Dr Sardo was felicitated for recognising and enhancing the research done by well-known Goan intellectuals. Beginning with her first trip to Goa as a young researcher in 1987, her research has made significant strides and was concentrated on Goan researchers like Agapito de Miranda.
The road shows, managed by Alicia Purple, were well attended by Indian Diplomats and other prominent citizens of the respective countries.
