The French Dancer and Choreographer Ali Salmi, in association with Alliance Française de Bombay, Institut Français, Région Grand Est, and Osmosis Cie will enthrall the people of Mumbai with yet another bewitching Dance Performance Revisiting Indian Spaces by Dance: Mumbai/Bombay from 12th to 20th December, 2019. The main aim of this event is to explore urban space using dance.
Ali Salmi, the founder of Osmosis Cie, calls himself “a choreographic surveyor of the public space” and thus deploys dance in spaces that are unlikely and unexplored. He feels dance is for the masses and that is where he wants to take the art form. Ali doesn’t believe in the limits of either the body or of space in a city as lively as Mumbai. Hence, Mumbaikars will be offered new re-imaginings of architecture, the spaces in which people live, and the spaces in which life resonates in the city.
The Open-Door Practice-Rehearsal-Creation by Ali Salmi will be conducted from Dec 12th (Mon) to Dec 19th (Thu) from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Priyadarshini Park in Malabar Hill, Mumbai. The final performance will be held on 20th Dec 2019 from 7.30pm. Both are free and open to the general public. No registration is needed.
Salmi is adept in making dance and physical theatre converge so that people can experience open spaces that might normally be obscured or not considered as formal performance spaces. In his visit to various cities of India like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Bangalore, he has earned laurels by creating visibility for his unique conception of dance as an art form.
