Indian single malts are gaining global recognition for their unique flavours and exceptional quality. Leading brands such as Amrut, Paul John, and Rampur have spearheaded this trend, earning numerous accolades at international spirits competitions. Their distinctive maturation processes, often influenced by India's diverse climate, produce complex and flavourful whiskies that are increasingly appreciated by whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
While not an Indian brand, D’yavol Scotch whisky, co-owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan, has recently joined the ranks of these award-winning whiskies.
Their pure malt Scotch whisky, D’yavol Inception, recently secured a gold medal at the prestigious International Spirits Challenge 2024. This competition, renowned for its stringent standards, evaluates thousands of entries from over 70 countries, recognising and promoting exceptional spirits on a global scale.
D’yavol Inception is celebrated for its distinctive fusion of eight unique single malts gathered from various regions of Scotland. This whisky presents a sophisticated harmony of peaty and sweet nuances, aged in rare Madeira and first-fill Tawny Port casks, resulting in a complex and layered character. Unfiltered and bottled at 47.1 per cent ABV, this daring whisky preserves its genuine flavour profile, delivering a lingering and rich finish.
Commenting on this win, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is one of the co-founders of D’yavol, expressed his excitement over the accolade, stating, “I’m thrilled to see the D’yavol Luxury Collective receiving accolades from our patrons. This gold medal is the result of all the hard work and passion of the whole team, and I’m sure it’s the first of many to come.” While Bunty Singh who is the other co-founder, mentioned, “I am proud that D’yavol’s liquid credentials are being validated by securing medals in prestigious competitions. It is particularly gratifying that these are awarded to our core expressions, which are readily available for consumers to try, and not for limited edition products and exclusive bottlings.”
Expanding beyond Inception, the brand's range includes a single estate vodka crafted in Poland and Vortex, a blended Scotch whisky. These offerings have garnered acclaim, securing medals at both the International Spirits Challenge and the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2024 awards.
