Immerse yourself in music and musicality at ‘Raymond MTV India Music Summit 2019’

The 3rd Edition of India Music Summit by Music Concepts in collaboration with Raymond and MTV is all set to celebrate India’s diverse musical heritage thereby showcasing it like no other at The Fairmont Jaipur from October 4th to 6th 2019. Presented in a unique and inimitable style, the summit dissolves the distance between the stage and the audience, allowing the energy of the music, musicians and music lovers to become one encompassing all genres of music, including Devotional, Classical, Jazz, Ghazal, Folk, Instrumental, and Contemporary.

Three former media professionals Ambika Srivastava, Mala Sekhri and Aparna Joshi, who were passionate about music and India’s beautifully diverse and rich musical heritage came together to form Music Concepts. Aparna Joshi talks to loudest.in about the 3rd edition of the India Music Summit bringing out the key highlights of this year’s line –up and what’s more in store for the music lovers…Here’s a sneak peek into the summit!

Over 50 sessions across 3 days at ‘The India Music Summit’ is sure to take attendees on a musical journey extending from classical highlights to morning devotional music to musicians jamming together to keynote addresses from the industry experts to conversations, choirs to Baithaks and Taleem, the summit has so much to offer!

For classical music affectionates the summit bestows an exotic line up of performances by Classical Vocalists Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Pt.Uday Bhawalkar, Vidushi Aruna Sairam, Sunanda Sharma, Prabh Deep, Venkatesh Kumar, Aslam Sabri, Radhika Chopra, and instrumentalists to include Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Vikku Vinayakram, Us. Shujaat Khan, Us.Taufiq Qureshi along with a younger generation of artists to include Shashank Subramaniam, Ajay Prasanna, Purbayan Chatterjee, Rahul Sharma and Kaushiki Chakroborty.

Among the keynote attractions, will be a conversation between Playback Maestro Asha Bhosle and the wizard of words Prasoon Joshi — Her Music, Her Life, Her Journey, Her Inspiration that is bound to enthrall. The summit will also see conversations with playback singers Sunidhi Chauhan and Javed Ali for those who are interested in making a career in playback singing. For western music lovers, the summit brings them The inimitable Shillong Chamber Choir and the Little Maestro -the World’s Fastest Piano Player-Lydian Nadhaswaram.” 

Talking about what makes the Summit Unique Aparna Joshi says, “The Summit’s tagline “ Ek saccha sur”  – a true note, is what we endeavor to bring alive for all music lovers. It’s really a music lover’s journey into a musical landscape without boundaries and it’s about offering a unique soulful experience. What is unique about India Music Summit is the format. Artists and audiences will get ample opportunity to indulge over three days of jam-packed sessions to interact, discuss, debate, and discover. Like the previous two editions, the 3rd edition of the India Music Summit is also about discovering, re-discovering and immersing in music and musicality. Our endeavor is to provide a platform for both well-known artists as well as introduce new talent.”

Joshi Asks inquisitively, “Where else will you find a Classical music legend like Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and a 13-year-old piano prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram presenting their music or have a Carnatic virtuoso Aruna Sairam engaged in a rap panel with cutting edge young Rappers like Prabh deep and Rajakumari or “Where else will the audience get a chance to not only hear but jam and sing with the artists in the late-night nostalgia sessions and for a music-loving audience, there aren’t many things better than that?”

The three-day Summit will host sessions ranging from rare, meditative, peaceful, and intimate mornings with the soulful Ajay Prasanna, and Shashank Subramanyam,  Uday Bhawalkar – the voice of Dhrupad, to a special dedication to the city of Moksh , the city of the Divine- The Beat of Benares from the brilliant Benares duo Pandit Rajan and Sajan Mishra to the carrier of Girija Devi’s Legacy — Sunanda Sharma.”

So what kind of experiences one can expect at the summit Joshi replies, “ The summit promises a host of experiences like immersing yourself in an ode to Goddess Durga in the early evening only to have the night flow into a Qawwali by Aslam Sabri. While in the mornings wake up for an early morning Baithak and have the mellifluous strains of the Bansuri floating through the lovely environs of the stunning Fairmont.  Engage in panels rich in the discussion, Masterclasses by Maestros and in-depth conversations with  Asha Bhosle and Prasoon Joshi.”

The summit bestows magnificent settings for artists to create new sounds and content, get out of their comfortable templates, disrupt the existing myths surrounding genres and create platforms to showcase themselves the way the world hasn’t seen or heard before. The Summit also allows for free-flowing conversations, debates, exchange of views and a collaborative celebration of India’s musical heritage.

Joshi puts light on the disruptive templates the artists are attempting this year to showcase themselves as people have not heard them before, “India Music Summit encourages established artists to break the mold and try something different, presenting well-known and loved musicians in a new avatar each time. This year the summit begins with a surprise that will be dear to every Rajasthani so all music lovers should be there to witness the opening ceremony for sure! There are also very special performances by the uniquely gifted Shillong Chamber Choir who will be presenting a sneak-peek into their new Khasi opera.”

“India music summit enfolds opportunities for both established as well as young upcoming artists and the 3rd edition is no different as Joshi says, “ There are unique artists that we have – be it  Lydian who is a child prodigy or  Rap artists like Rajakumari or  Gayatri Ashokan. I don’t think any talented artist is ‘unknown’ . A true music lover seeks out an artist and his or her art. We humbly provide an opportunity.”

Talking about the musical collaborations this season Joshi highlights on key performers saying, “ Taufiq Quershi, Shujaat Khan  and Vikku ji who are collaborating on the 5thfor the big evening concert. Then we have Purbyan Chatterjee on Sitar collaborating with Ustad Rashid Khan – it’s going to be magic. There is also a wonderful interactive session by Siddharth Mahadevan  and Saumil Shringarpure on the making of music.”

Highlighting on the workshops this year and who will be conducting them, Joshi says, “We have  Masterclasses by the masters Shujaat Khan, Aruna Sairam, Ustaad Mazhar, Jawaad Khan, Shashank Subramanyam, and Radhika Chopra who will demonstrate, teach and explain and decode music. Learning at the feet of the masters is a rare opportunity – that of entering their sacred zone, and taking a deep dive into the ocean of music.”

Entry to The India Music Summit is ticketed and the past two editions of the Summit saw over 8000 ticketed attendees, with many who traveled all the way to Jaipur for this immersive experience.
