The shopping centre extends its support to India HIV/AIDS Alliance, an organization working for the Social Rights of the Transgenders in India. The organization has contributed towards the empowerment of the Hijras/Transgenders by making them self-reliant through employment opportunities, livelihood options and skill development through various initiatives.
One such signature event is Hijra Habba meaning “Transgender Amalgamation”. It provides solidarity and confidence building among the community members.
This year’s Hijra Habba will be a gathering of around 200 transgender and hijra leaders along with 100 stakeholders, including state and national officials, implementing partners, legal experts, and activists to explore some pressing questions.
Commenting on the initiative, spokesperson from Select Citywalk, said, “Select Citywalk feels privileged to be hosting this year’s Hijra Habba in support of the cause of transgender equality. We believe in the concept and we look forward to seeing the display of skills of Transgenders. This will give the community a great platform to interact and share their experiences with the live audience of the shopping centre.”
The event will be attended by dignitaries including Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, a well-known transgender rights activist representing west, Ranjita Sinha representing East, Rudrani Chetri from North, Ravina representing central and Aruna from the Southern part.
Various transgender entrepreneurs from all across India will put up an exhibition of around 20 stalls showcasing art and culture, paintings and sculptures. The first cultural activity will be a Gidda performance by a Punjabi Trans Dance group followed by a Karragattam performance from the South. In the evening, there will be performance by the renowned singer Sushant Divgikar followed by a Fashion show by the group, Trans Queens India. The event will conclude with a Dancing Queens performance and a Kawaal night.
